Why I came

I came here not for treasure,
I came here not for gold.
I came just like a little child
Who's left out in the cold.
I came to tell the people here
The things that I behold:
Its dark outside;
The night is growing old.

I came here not for fortune,
I came here not for fame.
I came just like a frightened child
Abandoned in the rain.
I came because the people here
Have never been to blame
For all the things
That bring the people shame.

When all the worldly pleasures
Are taken from our hold,
And all the things man treasures
Are things of past untold,
Then all the people will enjoy
A world so free and bold,
And all the sheep
Will gather as one fold.
