If you seek the riches of the earth,
'Twas better to have sought them before birth.
And should your heart be set upon the dust,
Then go your way -- do as you must.
But if it is wisdom you have yearned,
Then come and hear the lessons that I've learned.
Make no search for water, but find thirst,
And water from the very ground will burst.
Look no more for treasure, but give all,
And treasure from the very skies will fall.
Seek in all that is spoken, the words that are silent,
And in everything visible, the meaning unseen.
Do not long for love, but make a start,
And so will love come spilling from your heart.
Do not cling to life but give it up;
The waters of true life will fill your cup.
Seek in all that is worldly, what is transcendent,
And in all that is present, what it can be.
