An Educational Covenant

Teachers would do well to start by introducing the concept of “Covenant” and establishing covenants with their students. Through consultation, the expectations, desires, needs of both parties should be made manifest and written for all to seem, approve, alter, or reject.

This will add immensely to the relationships of trust, understanding and authority between teacher and student. Both will know his/her own place, and will feel secure and safe in the learning environment. The mutuality of a covenant also implies responsibility and the need for obedience.
