No Way Back

The following was written by Ahmad on May 13, 2005, while riding on a bus in Brazil, before my letter to him on returning home.

It is interesting to see how our thoughts were going in the same direction, only that he said it much better than I.

NO WAY BACK

There is no way back.
Nothing you say can be taken back,
nor will you ever go back home.

Your body will never occupy
the same space twice,
nor will your soul be the same as before.

So I would lie if I said I'll go back home,
for your home is made in every second that passes,
because the world of existence is bound to change.

So when you go to the place you used to call home,
and you discover that it's not the same,
think twice, because maybe what changed the most was you,
for the world of existence is bound to change.

Know then that home is none other
than the air you breathe,
and the dust under your feet...
and you will always feel welcome.

So when you wake up the next day
and meet the souls of those you love,
rejoice, because the world of existence is bound to change,
and they are one day closer to the Unchangeable.

And when you wake up the next day
and meet the souls of those you hate,
make the air you breathe and the soil you tread your home,
and be a good host,
so that they may feel welcome,
because the world of existence is bound to change
and we are bound to make it our home.
