I awoke to the song of a robin singing outside my window, got out of bed, and was surprised to see that I stood on all four feet! Just then my kid goat Thor woke up and started calling me, and I realized I could understand what he was saying. In confusion I sat down to think this over, and in doing so saw, for the first time, that I had turned into a big Saanen buck!
I went to the ladder that led to the goat shed beneath the loft where I often slept. But then I stopped and thought, "Now how am I going to get down?" With great difficulty let myself down, hind feet first, onto the ladder. When I got completely onto the ladder, my feet slipped, and I fell into the stall. This incident scared my milk doe Heather into a corner, and brought a happy Thor onto my back!
I went over to Heather and reassured her that everything was alright. Then we both went over to the feeder and ate some grain, while frisky little Thor butted me in the side. I drank some water and went to the door to see what could be done about getting outside.
I needn't have worried though, because my mother had started to wonder why I hadn't come into the house for breakfast. She called into the barn and I answered. She looked inside the shed and stared in surprise when she saw me! I said "Hi" but of course she didn't understand me!
She soon got over her surprise and came into the shed to make sure it was me. It was, and to my delight she left the door open. I squeezed through with the others and we went out into the pasture for a sweet breakfast of dew-drenched grass.
